Basi Board and members met: standards, sustainability and more

What do respirators, collaborative robots and business trips have in common? Standards are being developed for them that play an important role in occupational safety and health. This and many other topics were discussed by the board and members of the Federal Working Group for Safety and Health at Work (Basi) e. V. at its members’ meeting, which took place in Hamburg this time.
The meeting was welcomed by Sabine Kudzielka, Chairwoman of the Management Board of Berufsgenossenschaft Verkehrswirtschaft Post-Logistik Telekommunikation (BG Verkehr). A special guest came from the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization(KAN), one of two new members of Basi. KAN is a platform that represents and coordinates the interests of occupational health and safety in standardization. Angela Janowitz (pictured with Basi Chairman Dr Sebastian Schneider and Basi Managing Director Dr Christian Felten, from left), Head of KAN, explained in her presentation “KAN and standardization – a building block for safe and healthy workplaces” how standards reflect European values such as data protection, personal protection and accessibility. New challenges arise from digitalization and artificial intelligence.

Another focus of the meeting was the outlook for the A+A Congress 2023, which will take place from 24 to 27 October in Düsseldorf and is organized by Basi. The A+A Congress is the central German and international trade event for occupational safety and occupational medicine and offers a diverse program of lectures, workshops, poster sessions and special areas. Key topics at this year’s congress include sustainability and digitalization – reflecting the current challenges and trends in the world of work and occupational safety.

Basi Managing Director Dr. Christian Felten presented some of the highlights of the congress and explained that visitors can also attend WearRAcon Europe, which runs parallel to the A+A congress and focuses on the use of exoskeletons. The fall congress of the Society for Occupational Science is also taking place at the same time and can be visited. Dr. Felten: “The admission ticket for the A+A Congress provides access to all three congresses and has therefore received enormous added value.” He added that many Basi members will be exhibiting at the A+A trade fair and presenting their products, services and initiatives there.

More information and a constantly updated congress program can be found at A+A Kongress – Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft für Sicherheit und Gesundheit bei der Arbeit (Basi).
