38th International A+A Congress 2023: From AI to sustainability – the trends in occupational health and safety

Artificial intelligence and its potential applications, the consequences of climate change and sustainable strategies in occupational safety and health: these and many other current topics, developments and trends will shape the 38th International A+A Congress 2023, which will take place in Düsseldorf from October 24 to 27, 2023 – together with the International A+A Trade Fair, the WearRAcon Europe Congress for Exoskeleton Technology and the GfA (German Society for Occupational Science) Autumn Conference. The organizer is Basi, the Federal Working Group for Safety and Health at Work.

As the central German joint event for safety and health with European and international appeal, the 38th A+A Congress will take place in Düsseldorf from October 24 to 27, 2023. The International A+A Trade Fair, the WearRAcon Europe Congress for Exoskeleton Technology and the GfA (German Society for Occupational Science) Autumn Conference will run in parallel. Tickets for these events are available online. Further information, including the current program, can be found on the Basi congress page.

46 sessions, around 320 speakers

Basi, the Federal Working Group for Safety and Health at Work, is inviting congress guests to 46 sessions with around 320 speakers. There will also be an extensive poster exhibition, which Basi is presenting together with WearRAcon. The speakers include well-known keynote speakers such as Prof. Dr. Thomas Rigotti, Professor of Work, Organizational and Business Psychology at the University of Mainz and working group leader at the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research. His topic “Resilience – a panacea for times of crisis?” will provide plenty to talk about.

Sustainable strategies for safety and health at work are one of the focal points of the 38th A+A Congress. “We are also looking at the challenges posed by climate change in the workplace, digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in occupational health and safety, as well as mobile working and the design of workplaces and mobile working,” explains Basi Managing Director Dr Christian Felten. Special congress events will focus on safe and human-centered AI in the world of work, but AI will also be brought into the spotlight as an instrument of occupational safety. In addition, the experts at the congress will deal with GDA (Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy) topics such as the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and mental stress. The Vision Zero Days of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) will focus on how accidents and illnesses in the workplace can be prevented overall. “Examples from company practice will illustrate this,” says Dr. Felten.

Practical examples presented by users

Successful application examples from the field of occupational health and safety will be presented and discussed at a workshop organized by the FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics & Management Aachen together with the Austrian Social Accident Insurance Institution (AUVA). At an event on the “Digital Factory”, specialists from the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IFA) of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) will explain how working conditions can be designed ergonomically and economically at an early stage with the help of software systems. And the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) will be holding its own session on how a risk assessment can systematically ensure good work design in the event of mental stress.

Offerings for special sectors and target groups

Other congress events focus on ways to protect employees in companies from chemical and physical hazards. The congress has its own offerings for special sectors such as safety officers and special target groups, such as networks of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). “Participants at the congress will once again receive valuable training points,” explains Basi Managing Director Dr. Felten.
