A recent survey by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) shows alarming trends: more than half of teachers at general education schools have observed an increase in psychological violence and bullying among pupils following the pandemic. 44% of those surveyed also reported an increase in physical violence. DGUV statistics recorded around 64,897 violence-related school accidents in 2023, an increase of 11,000 compared to the previous year.
Migration is one way of countering the shortage of skilled workers in the German labor market. The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) points out that language barriers and cultural differences must increasingly be taken into account in prevention concepts. The DGUV’s Institute for Work and Health (IAG) launched a survey to find out how high the need for prevention is in the context of migration.
The number of reports of suspected occupational illnesses fell by more than 60 percent in 2023. The number of recognized occupational diseases also fell accordingly to 72,747 (minus 63.5 percent). Interdisciplinary rehabilitation increases the chances of post-COVID patients improving their symptoms. This is the conclusion reached by the German Federal Pension Insurance (DRV) and the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) in a joint key issues paper on medical rehabilitation for post-COVID syndrome. With the help of the key points paper, the DRV and DGUV want to improve the care of those patients in whom several organ systems are affected and for whom rehabilitation concepts focused on one specialist area alone are not sufficient.
The coronavirus pandemic is still reflected in the provisional accident and occupational disease figures that the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) has now published: in 2022, a total of 368,841 reports of suspected occupational diseases were received by the accident insurance institutions. According to a special survey by the DGUV, 294,446 suspected cases of COVID-19 were reported.
Measurements in a wide variety of work areas and the determination of exposure data – this has been the task of the MGU for 50 years. Behind this is the accident insurance institutions’ measurement system for determining hazards, which is a collaborative network consisting of the measurement services of the statutory accident insurance institutions and the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the DGUV (IFA). The work of the accident insurance institutions is supported by this exposure data, which serves as a basis for prevention and health protection.
The risk of accidents in the private and public sectors has increased in 2021 compared to the previous year. This is according to the business and accounting results published by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV). The accident risk rose from 21.54 accidents at work per 1,000 full-time employees in 2020 to 22.95 accidents in 2021. However, this was still below the 2019 figure, when the accident risk was 23.93 accidents at work per 1,000 full-time employees. These figures relate solely to accidents in an occupational context. Accidents involving other groups of insured persons, such as people in voluntary work or in rehabilitation, are not included.
