The 38th A+A Congress will take place in Düsseldorf from October 24 to 27, 2023 – it is the central German joint event for safety and health with a European and international reach. The International A+A Trade Fair, the WearRAcon Europe Congress for Exoskeleton Technology and the Autumn Conference of the GfA (Society for Occupational Science) will run in parallel as part of the congress program. Tickets for these events are now available online in the ticket store. Further information can be found on the A+A Congress website.

Sustainability, AI and other challenges

Basi, the Federal Working Group for Safety and Health at Work, is presenting 40 sessions with more than 300 speakers. In addition, an extensive poster exhibition will be presented together with WearRAcon. The speakers include well-known keynote speakers such as Dr. Isabella Helmreich, Scientific Director of the “Resilience & Society” department at the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research in Mainz. Her topic “Resilience – a panacea for times of crisis?” is sure to be a talking point.
One focus of the 38th A+A Congress is on sustainable strategies for health and safety at work. “The challenges posed by climate change in the workplace, digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in occupational health and safety, as well as mobile working and the design of workplaces and mobile working are other important concerns,” explains Basi Managing Director Dr Christian Felten. Special events will therefore focus on safe and human-centered AI in the world of work, as well as AI as an occupational health and safety tool. In addition, the experts at the congress will address topics from the GDA (Joint German Occupational Health and Safety Strategy) such as the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and mental stress. The Vision Zero Days will focus on how accidents and illnesses can be prevented in the workplace as a whole. “We also hear more about examples from operational practice,” says Dr. Felten.

Examples from operational practice

Successful application examples from occupational health and safety practice will be presented and discussed in a workshop organized by the FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics & Management Aachen together with the Austrian Social Accident Insurance Institution (AUVA). At an event on the “Digital Factory”, specialists from the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IFA) of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) will explain how working conditions can be designed ergonomically and economically at an early stage with the help of software systems. And in a separate session, the Federal Ministry of Labor will be looking at how a risk assessment can systematically ensure good work design in the event of mental stress.

Offers for special target groups

Other congress events will focus on how employees in companies can be protected from chemical and physical hazards. The congress has its own offerings for special sectors and target groups such as safety officers and networks, such as the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). “Participants at the congress will once again receive valuable training points,” explains Basi Managing Director Dr. Felten.

Meeting point at the A+A trade fair

Numerous Basi members will also be exhibiting at the A+A trade fair in Hall 9 at the Safety and Health Meeting Point and contributing to the stage program at the A+A Trend Forum. The Basi stand in Hall 5 is a meeting point for all those interested in occupational health and safety.
