Sun protection and skin cancer – various campaigns
“The number of new cases of skin cancer in its various forms has been rising continuously for years. The main risk factor for skin cancer is tanning. This affects both our leisure activities and our outdoor workplaces,” says Dr. Uwe Schwichtenberg, Press and Public Relations Officer on the Board of the Professional Association of Dermatologists, BVDD. Under the motto “Soaked up too much sun? Your skin counts the hours”, the focus of various campaigns is on raising awareness of the effects of UV radiation and the correct protective behavior. Dermatologists want to remind people how everyone can minimize their risk. The professional association BG Bau also draws attention to the dangers of the sun: white skin cancer has been recognized as an occupational disease since 2015 and has since been one of the most frequently reported occupational diseases in the construction industry and in the construction-related services sector. In 2021 alone, there were around 2,600 new suspected cases. This means that around 16 percent of all reports were for this disease. This is shown by an evaluation for 2021, which the BG BAU has just presented.
