How the right lighting helps to prevent accidents
Poor lighting conditions can lead to accidents at work and put employees at risk. If stairs are not well lit, for example, the risk of tripping, slipping and falling accidents increases. The magazine “Arbeit & Gesundheit” (Work & Health) published by the employers’ liability insurance associations and accident insurance funds now provides suggestions for the right lighting.
Among other things, it portrays a tissue paper company that continuously reviews and improves its lighting concept. Bright does not always mean optimally illuminated, as light can also be dazzling. Shadows and light color must also be taken into account. The good-practice example shows how individual perception of light and the requirements of the Workplace Ordinance can be reconciled. Employees, in particular safety officers and occupational safety specialists, can contribute to the further development of the company lighting concept.
