Parkinson’s syndrome caused by pesticides recommended as an occupational disease

Parkinson’s syndrome caused by pesticides” is to be recognized as an occupational disease. The Medical Advisory Board on Occupational Diseases (ÄSVB) – an independent body attached to the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) – has recommended this. Inclusion in the Occupational Diseases Ordinance is considered a formality. Affected farmers are thus entitled to support and compensation.
Recognition as an occupational disease is possible for people who have used herbicides, fungicides or insecticides frequently and for many years in an occupational context. The BMAS intends to prepare the inclusion in the Occupational Diseases Ordinance in the second half of 2024. If all requirements are met, the disease can be recognized as a so-called “as-occupational disease” even before it is included in the Occupational Diseases Ordinance.
