The Basi at the Prevention Forum 2022: Climate change and adults in the working phase

As a hybrid event, the Prevention Forum 2022 dealt with the topic of “Climate change and health”. The focus was on health risks associated with climate change as well as activities for prevention, health, safety and participation promotion. Basi, the Federal Working Group for Safety and Health at Work, also took part: in his workshop “Adults in the employment phase”, Basi Managing Director Dr. Christian Felten discussed with participants what should be done in a company to keep employees healthy and protect them from the effects of climate change, especially heat.

Protective measures as a result of the risk assessment

Dr. Felten emphasized: “Carrying out a risk assessment always offers the opportunity to introduce appropriate protective measures at the workplace, even in a changing climate. Because every risk assessment results in measures.”
In his view, five areas in particular should be considered: Work in the event of climate-related disasters, migratory movements of workers (for example in agriculture), UV radiation and heat and warmth in the workplace and, where applicable, infectious diseases (caused by so-called vectors, for example “airport malaria” or the spread of native species such as ticks). In addition, new jobs created by increasing decarbonization must also be taken into account.

Exchange of information and experience between organizations and associations

Every year, the National Prevention Conference (NPK) invites nationwide organizations and associations that are significantly involved in health promotion and prevention to the Prevention Forum. The event serves the exchange of information and experience between the NPK, its member organizations and the professional public. The Federal Association for Prevention and Health Promotion (BVPG) has been commissioned to organize the Prevention Forum. The results of the Prevention Forum are documented and discussed in the NPK. They are also incorporated into the further development of the federal framework recommendations.
