He’s the new man: Professor Dr. Rolf Ellegast heads the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IFA) of the German Social Accident Insurance in Sankt Augustin. In this KAN interview, he provides insights into the current focus, developments and the impact of the institute’s research work.

Mobile VDU work should not be left to chance, but rather awareness should be created and clever planning should be made – this is the result of a systematic study by the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IFA). The IFA has compiled the current state of research on the influence of mobile VDU work on physical health.

Measurements in a wide variety of work areas and the determination of exposure data – this has been the task of the MGU for 50 years. Behind this is the accident insurance institutions’ measurement system for determining hazards, which is a collaborative network consisting of the measurement services of the statutory accident insurance institutions and the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the DGUV (IFA). The work of the accident insurance institutions is supported by this exposure data, which serves as a basis for prevention and health protection.
