Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization
He’s the new man: Professor Dr. Rolf Ellegast heads the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IFA) of the German Social Accident Insurance in Sankt Augustin. In this KAN interview, he provides insights into the current focus, developments and the impact of the institute’s research work.
Since it was founded 30 years ago, the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization (KAN) has dealt with a wide range of topics. In the beginning, it was mainly concerned with product safety standards; today, KAN deals with standardization policy developments, among other things: from artificial intelligence to climate change and the circular economy to the revision of the EU Standardization Regulation. The KANBrief now reports in detail on the symposium that KAN hosted in Berlin to mark its 30th anniversary.
A current explanatory film by KAN, the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization, deals with the information on personal weight in standards and regulations. The body weight of people plays a major role in the safety of products or work equipment. The value of 75 kilograms for persons used as a basis in many standards is no longer up to date.
