The latest DGUV information explains what parents, teachers and pupils need to bear in mind when using e-scooters in connection with school attendance. E-scooters belong to the group of small electric vehicles. They may not travel faster than 20 km\/h. A driving license is not required. If young people want to use e-scooters on the way to school, they must observe these things in addition to the StVO:     <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>E-scooters may only be ridden on cycle paths or on the road.<\/li>\n<li>No other persons or luggage may be carried on the running board. Otherwise stability is at risk.<br \/>\nAs with other vehicles, cell phones must not be used without hands-free equipment. It is best to refrain from using the phone at all while driving.  <\/li>\n<li>The better young drivers are dressed, the safer they are on the road. Parents should therefore make sure that their children wear a suitable helmet, bright clothing with reflective surfaces and sturdy shoes. <\/li>\n<li>If e-scooters are used for excursions or other school events, school management should specify the mandatory clothing requirements in a risk assessment.<\/li>\n<li>Where the e-scooters may be parked and used on the school grounds will be determined by the school management in consultation with the funding body. In order not to endanger others, the vehicles should only be pushed on the school grounds. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regardless of the means of transport used on the way to or from school, pupils are covered by statutory accident insurance. Parents and other legal guardians should make sure that the child knows the traffic rules and how to use the e-scooter.
