The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) points this out. As a statistical analysis by the umbrella organization of the German Social Accident Insurance Institutions for the years 2016 to 2020 shows, most reportable commuting accidents in road and rail transport are caused by cars and bicycles. Accidents involving cars and motorized two-wheelers are also the most common cause of people losing their lives on the way to work. Data on accidents involving pedelecs and e-scooters is also available for the first time for 2020.    <\/p>\n<p>According to DGUV data, a total of around 565,000 reportable commuting accidents occurred in road and rail transport between 2016 and 2020. Around half of these (267,442) were car accidents. Bicycles accounted for 128,029 accidents, motorized two-wheelers for 36,421. 31,007 insured persons were on foot when they had an accident. In contrast, only 4,533 insured persons had an accident on a bus and 1,212 on a train, subway or streetcar.
